jim-sandman-lscEvery day across America, victims of domestic violence seeking protection, veterans trying to avoid homelessness, and consumers facing wrongful evictions or foreclosures are forced to navigate the legal system alone because they can’t afford a lawyer. Legal Services helps assure fairness in our legal system, and it’s never been more needed, or more important, than it is today.”

- James J. Sandman
President Emeritus
Legal Services Corporation

powell“Equal justice under law is not merely a caption on the facade of the Supreme Court building, it is perhaps the most inspiring ideal of our society. It is one of the ends for which our entire legal system exists ... it is fundamental that justice should be the same, in substance and availability, without regard to economic status.”

U.S. Supreme Court Justice (ret.)

Testimonials

Dorothy W.North Mississippi Rural Legal Services was a real blessing for me. Jack Carmer really helped me. I had a large hospital debt, and they were garnishing my wages and that caused me to be behind in all my other bills. This program [Legal Services] is so necessary. If there is anything I can do to keep it from being cut, I will. Legal Services helped me get my life back together. They gave me a new start. By Jack helping me, I got all my bills caught up. I am living a new life again with thanks to God and Jack Carmer.

Sue GI was referred to Legal Services by a friend after Medicare denied my claim leaving me with a $23,000.00 bill after an accident. Mrs. Kilgore was wonderful. She went through the appeals process with me until finally, almost 3 years after the accident, an Administrative Law Judge ruled in my favor, and I got the amount that Medicare was supposed to pay.

NMRLS Elder Law Director Catherine V. Kilgore guided her through the Medicare appeals

Hattie M.Legal Services helped me to get custody of my 2 sons. Nora Rasco was just wonderful with me. She seemed to genuinely care about me as a person. They gave me back my life by helping me get my kids. I will always be grateful to them [Legal Services].
